    Hi Jason,

Thanks so much I know all the squash players with blister problems are really going to appreciate you bothering to take the time to pass this information on. I wish you health in your training and good luck in all of your competitions be they squash or triathlon. I always welcome comments on the shows.

    Barb,

In addition to playing squash, I am also a triathlete. I used to have a lot of problems with blistering problems that you discussed in show #13. In the past I have tried many of your recommendations and found them to be less than effective. About two years ago I was at a triathlon shop asking for advice on how to fix my blistering issues and the salesperson pointed me to a sock made by “Swiftwick”. Although I was skeptical I tried a pair and have since converted all of my socks to Swiftwick’s Aspire line. Since this conversion I have not had a single blister, and that includes completing a 70.3 Ironman Triathlon last summer wearing a pair of Swiftwick socks. I believe the key to their effectiveness lies in their ability to wick away sweat and moisture from the foot, but also in their compression like fit. Your foot can move in your shoe, but the friction is between the sock and the shoe, not your foot and the sock. The socks never move on your foot.

If you or any of your followers are having problems with blisters, I recommend checking out Swiftwick socks.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Hi Liam,
Yes, most people think about this as being the last point, try to rush and finish the game and often end up struggling.
Try telling yourself it is 10 all and keep doing exactly what you have been doing up till now. It will take the pressure off if you are simply playing a point. I would practice this from the first point of the game. You want this point! when playing the next point “you want this point”and so on. you will be more present and not so worried about the future outcome. In truth if you pay attention to the present the future will take care of itself. Do the right things in each rally and learn and modify when things don’t work and you will be an effective player, playing your opponent not yourself.
Let me know how it goes. it will take practice so do that in non threatening situations so that you are familiar in tougher times.

Hey Barb – Love the show thanks for all the help

My question deals with my mental game. When I start winning in squash, say the game is 14-10 for me, I get too excited and it’s hard for me to get that last point and win the game! I try your breathing thing you said, but I still find it hard to focus I guess.

    any suggestions?Help!

    Hi Barb
Love the ‘planking’. I do use this a lot and it is amazing how well it builds up the core. But I have never used the extreme board. I’ll give it a go and see how I go. It looks like it will amplify the benefits.
    Cheers.
    Brian
